The new Distortions quest in Destiny 2 introduces you to the event of the same name, which Bungie hopes will revitalise destination-based play a little more now that the game has received its final update. There is a range of really good new weapons available in this event, so it's well worth the time if you find something you want to farm, especially with the inclusion of attunement for pretty much all activities.
You first get this quest from Lodi in the Tower, so here's what you need to do from then onwards to complete it, and how to play a Distortions event.
