In a rebuke of President Donald Trump’s war in Iran, the US House of Representatives has voted to pass a war powers resolution requiring him to get congressional approval before carrying out any more military operations in the region.
The final vote was 215 to 208, with four Republicans joining Democrats in passing the measure – Thomas Massie, Brian Fitzpatrick, Tom Barrett and Warren Davidson.
Six Republicans missed the vote, which made it easier for the measure to pass.
The House erupted in cheers on the Democrats’ side of the chamber the moment the resolution passed.
The measure now heads to the Senate, where bipartisan opposition to the Iran war has been slowly increasing, too.
Wednesday’s vote marks the fourth time this year, but the first successful time, that House Democrats have forced floor votes to end the war.
